\nThe Crypt<\/strong>, which is slightly smaller than the Basilica, is where Mass is celebrated on Sundays and Feast Days during the winter months.<\/strong> Pilgrims stop to say a prayer in the \u201cCappellina del Pozzo\u201d: the very place where the votive chapel was erected in the 1600s.<\/strong> The \u201cCappellina del Pozzo\u201d has been completely renovated and incorporated into The Crypt. Today it is adorned in marble and houses an artistic altar that preserves the relics of the martyr St. Alexander.
\nOn the right side of the nave there is the chapel of the Nativity with its permanent manger scene.<\/strong> There is an additional chapel dedicated to Pope John XXIII, Pope John Paul II, and the Blessed Giovanni Battista Scalabrini Bishop of Piacenza. On the left side there is the chapel of the Crucifixion with wooden statues from Ortisei, the picturesque capital of Val Gardena famous for its ornate woodcarvings, and paintings by the artist Arturo Cur\u00e0, a native of Bedonia. There is an additional chapel on the left side of the nave dedicated to St. Pius of Pietrelcina.
\nOn the back wall there is a copy of the Holy Shroud<\/strong> and a canvas portraying the Crucifixion.<\/p>\n
